Hydroponic Technician Farmer

The federally endorsed US Department of Labor approved Hydroponic Technician Farmer Apprenticeship program. This program highlights an individual in the Hydroponic Technician Farmer (indoor, outdoor, hydroponics) occupation that applies to a hydroponic indoor SMART Farming System or Controlled Environment Agriculture, an advanced farming system that utilizes hydroponic technology to cultivate crops indoors.

The coursework includes a full eLearning experience with simulations that allow participants to have hands -on experience in HVAC, Electrical, and Plumbing aspects of CEA environments. This course also had the full OSHA 10 safety training as well as social emotional stress and trauma training. Using a mix of mythologys the course covers topics from agriculture to Health and an urbanized mental health component for individuals to assess, address, and reduce the impact of toxic and traumatic stress. The course used Canvas as a Learning Management System (LMS). I personally worked throughout the process of instructional design, business development, and marketing.

On this project I managed a moderate budget and worked with local institutions for recruitment with state job board centers and hiring sponsors such as Bayer Crop Sciences and The Donald Danforth Plant Science Center. I collaborated with funding partners to collect over $500,000 in state funding.Leading groups of teams simultaneously for WordPress website development, graphic designers for presentations and social media, and facilitators. This program was modified for each organization which ranged from high school students to job seekers. The price for one participant was up to  $7,000 each. This project started as the training model for a local hydroponic farm. Next packaged for high school as a summer learning program which led into an elective class during the school year. Next packaged for high schoolers transitioning into summer jobs. Lastly packaged for returning veterans for career development and then working age job seekers.

Our Social Impact StartUp Academy (SISTAC) project

Working with Purdue University’s College of Engineering Master’s of Engineering Management graduate program that applied technical engineering and management skills to tangible impact an organization business needs in an experimental course. Working with a small group of specifically selected Engineering Management students to generate an impact on the business model.Over 14 weeks, a interactive online experience where students engaged in:

I guided students through an innovative startup business project that had a distinct advantage. This startup involved developing a lean business model and strategy, as well as exploring government apprenticeship programs and workforce development initiatives. Students were guided through the process of LMS, board involvement, and risk analysis.I guided students through a student-led initiative that focused on understanding business models, customer/user discovery, and design thinking-inspired project prototyping and iteration. Additionally, I facilitated their presentations. Serving as the primary point of contact for the company, I conducted weekly lessons using Gagne’s 9 Events of Instruction model.

This course used Canvas and a virtual meeting 2-3 times weekly.

Jr MANNERS LEADERSHIP SUMMER PROGRAM

“Students from across the Saint Louis Metropolitan area participated in a Hybrid Agriculture program that I led. This student-led initiative introduced participants to the fundamentals of agritech, business, and food cultivation. The program utilized Google Classroom and integrated AR/VR headsets for optical simulations in HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems. Students not only gained knowledge of Controlled Environment Agriculture but also created unique food recipes and graduated with a recognized certification. Additionally, they were offered job opportunities upon completion. I coordinated this project by bringing together top farmers, facilitators, and managers. We also incorporated social-emotional screeners and surveys to support student well-being. Based on the program’s success, an actual apprenticeship program was established.”
